Watts Outdoors Continues it's Legacy

For many in Southeast Texas, a trip to the water isn’t just a weekend outing, it’s a way of life passed down through generations. Few understand this better than the owner of Watts Outdoors, Jake Watts. Founded on August 19, 2019, the local outpost is approaching its 7th anniversary. But its roots go much deeper, tracing back to the late 1980s and early 90s at P&M Bait Shop, a beloved local spot run by the owner’s late father. Working alongside his dad after school and on weekends formed some of the best memories of his childhood. When health struggles forced his father to close P&M, the dream didn't disappear, it just waited for the right time. Years later, combining a lifelong passion for fishing and long-range shooting with a desire to help fellow outdoor enthusiasts, Watts Outdoors was born as a living tribute to family tradition. Located just a few hundred yards from the Neches River boat ramp, Watts Outdoors was placed specifically to serve anglers, hunters, and weekend adventurers right where they need it most. What began in a worn-down structure has recently transformed. After purchasing the property, the owner tore down the original building to construct a brand-new, purpose-built facility. Today, the store provides an upgraded setup for local sportspeople, including: Live Bait & Tackle: Minnows, local tackle, and expert advice from an experienced angler. Hunting Gear & Ammo: Stocked ammunition and special-order firearms, backed by long-range shooting expertise. Expanded Deer Corn Storage: Freshly stocked bulk feed ready for hunting season. Drive-Thru Convenience: A fast way to grab deer corn, live bait, ice, and cold beer before heading to the river or woods. Having lived in Silsbee all his life, the owner raised his children here and considers serving the surrounding East Texas communities a privilege. Watts Outdoors stood as a vital resource during the COVID-19 pandemic when outdoor recreation kept many connected and sane. However, like many small brick-and-mortar operations across the country, the shop has faced a challenging market recently. Having recently retired from the oilfield, the owner is now devoting his full time and energy to the storefront, hoping the new building, added inventory, and drive-thru convenience will turn the tide.
