Arise, Shine, for Darkness Comes

Qumi is the feminine emphatic imperative: “Wake up!” Isaiah is curious in that it announces this good news in verse 1, only to follow it up with darkness.

Arise, Shine, for Darkness Comes
From the November 3, 2026 edition of the Satsuma Valley Standard.

Peshitta Mk 5:41: “Taking her by the hand, [Jesus] said to her: ‘Talitha, qumi,’ which means, ‘Little girl, get up!’”

Aramaic Tar Is 60:1: “Arise (Qumi), shine, Jerusalem; for the time of your salvation has come, and the glory of the LORD will be revealed upon you.”

Qumi is the feminine emphatic imperative: “Wake up!”. Isaiah is curious in that it announces this good news in verse 1, only to follow it up with this:

Tar Is 60:2: “For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and gloom the kingdoms; but in thee the Shekhinah of the LORD will dwell, and his glory will be revealed upon thee.

It's strange to wake Jerusalem up just before an earth covering darkness. Why is it like this? This is prophetic for the light of messiah coming to Jerusalem, and Jerusalem rejecting him leading to a period of global spiritual (and physical) darkness, but God will ultimately spare Jerusalem according to His will. Tabitha served as a type of Jerusalem.

This Talitha also alludes to Jerusalem per Deu 21:13-21—a maritally pledged city which lost its virginity to another before the marriage consummation. Aramaic Deut. specifically uses Talitha to describe such a woman.

Tar Is 60:4: “Lift up, Jerusalem, your eyes round about, and see all the sons of the people of your exiles who are gathered together, they come to your midst; your sons shall come from far, and your daughters shall be carried on hips.”

All the “sons of your exiles” are the 12 tribes, Tabitha was 12 when she was afflicted ... The promise is that after the period of darkness, the 12 tribes will be regathered.

Tar Is 60:9: “Surely, the isles shall wait for my Memra [~Aramaic for Logos/Word], and those that embark in the ships of the sea, the hand that stretcheth out their sails shall be first, to bring thy sons from far, their silver and their gold with them, unto the name of the Lord thy God, and to the Holy one of Israel, because He hath glorified thee.”

In this, all the islands, the furthest stretches of the world, must first hear the Memra [~Logos/Word]. Afterwards begins the second exodus of bringing the 12 tribes from afar back to Israel, with their wealth, and honor. While parts of Judah have since returned, this prophecy won't be fulfilled until the darkness fully passes and all the tribes are returned. In every jot and tittle, He is faithful to fulfill His promises.
